Who Are we?

UC Santa Barbara Model United Nations was founded in 2007 with the aim of encouraging international awareness and developing communication and negotiation skills through the simulation of the United Nations and its subsidiary bodies. A fully student-run and student-funded organization, UCSBMUN is comprised of undergraduate students of all different fields of study with a mutual passion for international relations.

what do we do?

UCSBMUN is one of the few collegiate programs that has the capacity to host a collegiate conference, high school conference, and competitive travel team.

The Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Model United Nations (SBIMUN) Conference, held annually in November, attracts colleges and universities from all over the West Coast. Hosted in our beautiful beachfront town, SBIMUN challenges both delegates and staff to think creatively - providing a safe environment for stimulating debate and networking.

The Gaucho Model United Nations (GauchoMUN) Conference, our high school level conference, hosts delegates from all over the West Coast and even Canada. Hosted on campus, GauchoMUN recently expanded to encompass two days and offers a variety of committees and workshops.

UCSBMUN's travel team competes at conferences all across the country, most notably in Los Angeles, Montreal, and Chicago.

get involved!

UCSBMUN recruits general members each year at the start of Fall and Winter Quarter. Information regarding recruitment is generally posted on our Instagram page and on this website. The recruitment process consists of an application, a committee simulation, and an interview.

No prior experience is required, just an interest to join and the motivation to succeed. We provide all the necessary training and our club subsidizes a majority of travel costs.
